Maoist chairman warns 'unholy alliance' could jeopardise peace process

Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said the "unholy and unnatural alliance" of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) could put the peace process at stake. Speaking to reporters at the CPN-M's parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar Sunday afternoon, Dahal said that implementation of the 12-point agreement, and the constitution-making process would be seriously hampered if the new alliance sustained.

Political parties have been engaged in bilateral discussions on Sunday in a bid to secure votes for their own candidates in the president re-election due to be held on Monday.

More three fringe parties today announced to support Nepali Congress candidate Dr Ram Baran Yadav for the post of president. Rastriya Jana Morcha, CPN (Sanyukta) and Chure Bhavar Rastriya Ekta Party decided to support Yadav in the run-off election for country's first President, scheduled to take place on Monday.

PM meets with Chure Bhawar leader; parties intensify parleys

In an indication how the big parties are working for each and every vote, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met with chief of Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party Keshab Mainali on Sunday morning. Mainali is the lone member of the party. PM met with him to ask for his vote in favour of NC's presidential candidate Dr. Ram Baran Yadav. Mainali had only voted in vice presidential poll on Saturday.

RJM to back Dr. Yadav in presidential race

The Rastriya Jana Morcha (RJM) has decided to vote in favour of Dr. Ram Baran Yadav in the run-off presidential election on Monday. The RJM's central committee meeting made this decision Sunday, according to its leader Chitra Bahadur KC, reports Nepal FM. The RJM, which has four CA members, had boycotted the election on Saturday.

Great betrayal to Madhesi Community: J.P.Gupta

Jay Prakash Gupta, the Nepali Congress turned Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum leader has dubbed the newly formed alliance with the Nepali Congress and the United Marxists-Leninists as to have been against the wishes of the Nepali people. “Upendra Yadav’s decision to tie-up at the last minute with the anti-Madhesi forces has betrayed the entire Madhesi community which is mysterious”.

Security Council for UNMIN Term Extension

United Nations' Security Council members on Friday supported Nepal's request for a six-month extension of the United Nations special political mission in the country with reduced size and mandate. As requested by the government, the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) would have to "engage itself for the remainder of the mandate", which "relates to the ongoing work on monitoring the management of arms and armed personnel in line with the agreement among the political parties and assisting in implementing the agreement".
