PARTY DETAILS
Sadbhavana Party (SP) led by Rajendra Mahato

Nepal Sadbhavana Party led by Rajendra Mahato was founded in September 2007. Mahato, who was the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply and Laxman Lal Karna formed the party after the split with Nepal Sadbhavana Party-Anandevi. The party was initially known as Sadhbhavana Party (Anandidevi) but was later renamed as Sadhvana Party (SP). The party chairman Mahato was the then general secretary of NSP-A.

Goals

Nepal Sadbhavna Party believes that the unitary structure of government cannot represent the interest and aspirations of the common people, including those living in the Terai. The party believes that there is rampant social and economic exploitation in the Terai. The existing inadequate land reform laws and electoral system cannot fully represent the actual population size of Terai. There are exisiting legal disputes on citizenship even for those who have been citizens for over twenty years. There is poor recruitment of Terai people, especially in the army. Sadbhavna Party demands a federal structure of government so that there is a greater national cohesion, unity and sense of well being among the people of Nepal. According to the party, an amendment in the constitution is essential in order to guarantee equality to citizens without any discrimination.

Platform

Nepal Sadhbhavana Party stresses on the need to empower rural people by making them aware of their rights under the new constitution.

Manifesto

Sadbhawana Party manifesto proposes an elected president to be ceremonial and Prime minister as executive chief of the nation.

It says that autonomous Madhes would maintain national integrity.

There should be and end to all kinds of discrimination and exploitation.

It manifesto proposes three provinces dividing the country into mountain, hill and madhesh provinces. There should be a further division into different autonomous sub-provinces on the basis of language, culture and community and those sub-provinces to be accountable to provinces.

Chief ministers elected by provincial parliaments will be the executive heads of the provinces.

Similarly, the manifesto proposes free and independent judiciary, protection of fundamental rights and human rights, press freedom and mixed electoral system and conducting national census at the earliest.

It further says that there should be non-aligned foreign policy, and reservation in government administration and security organs for marginalized groups.

If the Maoists stick to the same policy there is no need for others to change their views on them. They have not changed a bit. They are sill anarchists.
